Introduction to Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO DBT)
Chicago, IL US
November 14, 2025
Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO DBT) is an evidence-based treatment designed for individuals who struggle with excessive self-control, a core feature in many treatment-resistant disorders. This activity will introduce participants to essential concepts and terminology used in RO DBT with a specific focus on skills that promote flexible thinking and engaging in novel behaviors. In addition, it will clarify the key distinctions between undercontrolled and overcontrolled bio-temperaments, equipping clinicians with the conceptual tools to differentiate between these two styles and tailor interventions accordingly. Participants will also learn how to identify individuals who are most likely to benefit from RO DBT through assessment strategies and clinical indicators, with practical guidance for integrating this knowledge into case formulation and treatment planning. They will learn basic and practical RO DBT interventions that clinicians can apply when working with overcontrolled clients.
Target Audience
This activity is designed for health and wellness professionals at the University of Chicago interested in learning therapeutic skills from a RO DBT framework.
