Target Audience
This activity is designed for community-based primary care and behavioral health clinicians providing care to patients who are at risk for suicide.
Learning Objectives
After this activity, participants will be able to:
- Define the epidemiology and risk factors for depression, anxiety, substance use, and suicidality in children and adolescents.
- Describe the principles and application of the Zero Suicide model within primary care and community settings.
- Apply evidence-based approaches to screening and assessment of youth presenting with behavioral health concerns.
- Implement collaborative safety planning with youth and families, including strategies to reduce access to items that could be used for self-harm, such as firearms or medications.
- Demonstrate communication and collaboration strategies to support families experiencing aggression, trauma, or oppositional behaviors.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of psychoeducation and feedback-informed treatment strategies for supporting youth and families.
- Develop referral and follow-up plans that address challenges in post-acute care and transitions between pediatric and adult services.
