Learning Objectives:
- Describe the pathophysiology and clinical presentation of endometriosis and adenomyosis, with attention to impact on overall physical and emotional health
- Analyze the barriers to timely diagnosis of endometriosis, including delayed recognition, chronic overlapping pain conditions, and other comorbidities
- Apply principles of trauma-informed, empathetic care by obtaining a through medical, surgical and pain history to inform individualized treatment planning
- Identify common patient-reported symptoms related to endometriosis-associated pain, and formulate nursing responses to common patient concerns during phone triage or follow-up care
- Discuss the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in managing chronic pelvic pain, including pain anesthesia, GI, psychiatry/psychology, and pelvic floor physical therapy
- Evaluate a case-based model of endometriosis care, including the role of supportive care, physical therapy, hormonal therapy, and surgical management.
