Excellence in Providing New Directions (ExPAND) in Mifepristone Use

March 18, 2025 to April 29, 2025
With early pregnancy loss care in the United States facing unprecedented challenges, primary care and community health centers play a critical role in ensuring access. Serving as the first point of care and rooted in longitudinal relationships, primary care providers can expand abortion access by providing accurate information and referrals to their patients seeking abortion, and by providing care when the necessary supports are in place.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for clinician-champions and small interdisciplinary teams from established primary care and multispecialty practices, including community health centers across the United States. It is open to participants in all regions, including areas where abortion is currently illegal or where the use of mifepristone is restricted, to help clinics achieve the maximum scope of practice within their specific settings.

Learning Objectives

After this activity, participants will be able to:
  • Describe how clinical practices have successfully addressed safety concerns in abortion care;
  • Explain federal and state-level abortion and mifepristone restrictions;
  • Summarize model protocols for mifepristone and misoprostol use;
  • Implement guidelines for clinical follow-up after mifepristone administration;
  • Assess the impact of abortion stigma on clinical practice;
  • Develop strategies to overcome barriers to abortion care implementation.
