Update on Schizophrenia 2024: Progressing from Mental Illness to Mental Health
The agenda will delve into the science behind schizophrenia, exploring the neuroanatomy and neuropathology of the condition. Equally important, the symposium will center on the lived experience of patients, fostering a deeper understanding of their challenges.

Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Recognize the gap between research advancements and improved outcomes for people with serious mental illness (SMI), the reasoning behind this gap, the stigma and bias in healthcare settings faced by people with SMI, and strategies to reduce stigma and improve compassion in healthcare;
- Define the three pillars of recovery by understanding the broader concept of health beyond healthcare, gaining familiarity with the deinstitutionalization movement and its impact, and understanding the lived experiences of patients with schizophrenia and their families;
- Apply knowledge about the neuroanatomical and neurodevelopmental models of Schizophrenia, understanding cognitive dysfunction in these patients through case studies.
