
Endocrine Surgery: Update on Thyroid, Parathyroid, and Adrenal Disease
In light of the constant changes in surgical techniques and treatment guidelines for endocrine patients, the overall goal of this symposium is to provide a concise review of the management guidelines for thyroid cancer, primary hyperparathyroidism, and adrenal incidentalomas. The symposium will also provide overview of the most recent medical discoveries that have the potential to impact patient management.
Target Audience
This activity has been designed for physicians and health care providers in the specialties of primary care physicians, endrocrinologists, endocrine surgeons, general surgeons, and otolaryngology head and neck surgeons.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
- State the most recent changes to the American Thyroid Association guidelines for the management of thyroid nodules and thyroid cancer;
- Explain the controversy surrounding central neck lymph node dissection and the scientific data that supports both sides of the argument;
- Demonstrate when to refer a patient with primary hyperparathyroidism for surgery and a patient with endocrine disorders for genetic counseling;
- List differences in thyroid surgery techniques;
- Summarize the current literature and recommendations for robotic surgery of the thyroid.
