Objectives:

1. Provide the numerical evidence to support carotid artery disease as an important cause of ischemic stroke;
2. Iterate the evidence supporting the current guidelines for treatment of carotid artery disease; and
3. Provide information from ongoing contemporary medical and interventional studies that will guide future diagnosis and treatment of carotid artery disease.
