Learning objectives: The session will address an age old question – “what allows some individuals to effectively contain M. tuberculosis infection and live asymptomatically throughout life without ever progressing to active disease?” By the end of the session, participants will learn that specific immune cells play critical roles in determining M. tuberculosis infection outcomes.
The session will discuss if peripheral cellular biomarkers can predict tuberculosis disease burden at the site of infection (lungs). By the end of the session, participants will learn that specific immune markers in blood can reflect the disease burden in lungs, and predict TB disease progression and treatment efficacy.
