At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the importance of sleep in healthy aging and its impact on overall health and quality of life in older adults.
  2. Identify common sleep disorders affecting older adults, including insomnia and sleep apnea, and discuss their prevalence.
  3. Explain factors predisposing older adults to sleep disorders, such as age-related changes and comorbidities.
  4. Recognize clinical consequences of untreated sleep disorders, including increased risks of falls, frailty, and cognitive decline.
  5. Outline approaches to diagnosis of sleep disorders in older adults, including the use of screening tools and sleep studies.
