Objectives:

  • To understand the purpose of ATLS
  • To appreciate the unique aspects of children’s anatomy and physiology that make a pediatric trauma patient different from the adult trauma patient
  • To recognize how these differences may lead to alterations in your primary and secondary survey
  • To briefly discuss head, neck, chest, abdominal and extremity injuries in children
  • To always consider non-accidental trauma as a possible mechanism of injury
