31st Annual Conference: Challenges for Clinicians

Chicago, IL US
December 1, 2017 to December 3, 2017
The evolving landscape of perioperative medicine has dramatically increased the scope and complexity of anesthesia care. New techniques, new drugs, new evidence, quality and safety concerns all play a role in today’s practice environment. This conference will focus on areas of anesthetic care that require integrating these new aspects of medical care. Increasingly, we need to know not only whether techniques are effective, but also that they are high quality, safe, evidence-based, and cost effective.

Target Audience

This activity has been designed for anesthesiologists, certified registered nurse anesthetists, and other clinicians and health care professionals interested in the fields of anesthesiology and pain medicine.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this educational activity, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss risk factors for non-reproducibility in research findings and their causes;
  • Describe cognitive approaches to avoiding medical error and improving both the quality and safety of clinical care;
  • Identify risk factors for chronic opioid use after surgery and potential strategies to reduce such use;
  • Evaluate current best practice with respect to neuromuscular block reversal and the use of the new reversal agent sugammadex;
  • Outline the current scientific evidence in the area of anesthetic neurotoxicity.
