Objectives:

1.  Discuss the first pooled analysis of individual participant data from completed randomized trials comparing PFO closure versus medical therapy in patients with cryptogenic stroke.

2.  Review the descriptive statistics (mean SD and percentages) were generated for patient characteristics in the overall cohort and compared between the 3 component studies.  P values

testing the null hypothesis of no difference between the 3 studies were obtained either from an analysis of variance F-test (age, body mass index) or from achi-square test.
