OBJECTIVES

The purpose of this lecture is to:

1. To understand in the 2013 guidelines the improvements from the prior 2004 NCEP cholesterol guidelines.

2. To better understand the limitations of the ASCVD risk assessment guidelines in identifying truly low risk individuals.

3. Help to understand when to order a coronary artery calcium scan to refine ASCVD risk estimation.
