DESCRIPTION:

This presentation will highlight some of the most difficult and complex areas of doctor-patient communication in clinical cancer care and suggest strategies for approaching them that are based on both the evidence base and clinical experience.

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Participants will examine and consider what makes aspects of communicating with cancer patients so complex and consider approaches to improving their own communication skills with cancer patients
  • Participants will analyze some of the literature and evidence base that make some strategies more successful than others
  • Participants will contrast their own language against the speaker’s suggested ways of managing communication about complex topics in clinical cancer care
