DESCRIPTION:

Onconephrology is the care of kidney disease in patients with cancer, and of cancer risk in patients for kidney disease. The case-based session introduces the field to hematology/oncology audience through three de-identified patients: cisplatin-associated acute kidney injury, checkpoint inhibitor-associated interstitial nephritis, and nephrotic syndrome after allogeneic transplant. Each case ends at an oncologic decision; whether to hold, dose reduce, resume, or proceed. The session closes with practical referral triggers and information on how to refer to onconphrology clinic/service.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

• Define onconephrology and describe the scope of kidney disease in patients with cancer.
• Recognize the kidney complications most likely to interrupt or limit cancer therapy.
• Apply a case-based approach to three complicated scenarios.
