DESCRIPTION:
Describe historical trends in the surgical management of spinal metastatic disease as well as primary spinal column tumors. In both categories the trend has evolved from an initial less aggressive to more aggressive approach to a more recent multidisciplinary and individualized or personalized approach. New technology has allowed for newer innovative approaches.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
• Review the statistics of spinal metastatic disease and the evolving role of surgical care of these patients.
• Understand the role for biopsy with solitary/primary spinal column tumors.
• Understand the importance of a multidisciplinary approach for the treatment of spinal neoplasms.
• Review some of the new or innovative approaches for spinal column neoplasms.
