Objectives:

  1. Describe the epidemiology and impact of perinatal mental health conditions, including risks of untreated illness on maternal and fetal outcomes. 
  2. Apply guideline-based approaches to diagnosing and managing depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, and postpartum psychosis during pregnancy and postpartum. 
  3. Evaluate the safety, risks, and benefits of psychopharmacologic treatments in pregnancy and lactation, including selection of first-line agents and avoidance of high-risk medications. 
  4. Implement evidence-based counseling and shared decision-making strategies to support continuation or adjustment of psychiatric medications during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
