Objectives:
- Describe the epidemiology and impact of perinatal mental health conditions, including risks of untreated illness on maternal and fetal outcomes.
- Apply guideline-based approaches to diagnosing and managing depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, and postpartum psychosis during pregnancy and postpartum.
- Evaluate the safety, risks, and benefits of psychopharmacologic treatments in pregnancy and lactation, including selection of first-line agents and avoidance of high-risk medications.
- Implement evidence-based counseling and shared decision-making strategies to support continuation or adjustment of psychiatric medications during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
