Learning Objectives:
- This lecture introduces what has been learned about how psychiatrists serve to enhance resilience in disasters including fires, natural disasters, violence, and the Covid19 pandemic.
- It addresses types of disaster, disaster response systems, training, leadership, messaging, self care, and how to prepare and provide psychiatric assessment and interventions including psychological first aid (PFA) for children, adults and families.
- The lecture introduces how to evaluate, provide social supports, and treat vulnerable populations including the injured and directly impacted, children, the economically vulnerable, those with severe mental illness, indigenous peoples, refugees, and ethnic, racial and religious minorities.
