Objectives

  1. Understand that thrombosis of AVF in ESRD is very common, causing significant morbidity and contributes to the cost of providing care.  Current Practice is to treat after the thrombosis occurs as we have no clinical predictors to determine  when thrombosis will occur.
  2. Understand that the mCA will also assist to determine the optimal blood flow to prevent thrombosis and future application includes being used as the best location for stents, angioplasty and the surgical anastamosis.
  3. Plan to induce thrombosis with blood from control and patients with renal failure to determine which factors are responsible to induce  and prevent  thrombosis using anti-coagulants, anti-platelet agents.
  4. Understand that the mCA will also assist to determine the optimal blood flow to prevent thrombosis and future application includes being used as the best location for stents, angioplasty and the surgical anastamosis.
