Scholarly concentration programs provide students with support and mentorship to complete a scholarly project in parallel with the traditional 4-year medical school curriculum. The Pritzker School of Medicine began its program, Scholarship & Discovery, in 2009 as part of the Pritzker Initiative. This talk will present data on student experiences and productivity since the launch of Scholarship & Discovery, and will highlight data showing that students' experiences in Scholarship & Discovery positively impact interest in career-long research involvement. Additionally, data from a multi-site survey show that student career interests at matriculation impact their goals related to scholarly work. Last, the talk will consider areas of interest to further assess and improve scholarly concentration programs both at the Pritzker School of Medicine and nationally.
