LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

 Learn about the association of recreational drugs and rheumatic conditions including:

1. Identify the clinical features of hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) and macrophage activation syndrome (MAS), and differentiate them from other conditions that present with similar symptoms.
2. Explain the pathophysiology and immunology of HLH/MAS, and discuss the role of immune dysregulation in the development of these conditions.
3. Formulate an appropriate diagnostic and treatment plan for patients with HLH/MAS, considering underlying triggers, immunosuppressive and biologic therapies, and supportive care.
