Pain Assessment of Children with Difficulty Communicating

The goal of this educational curriculum is to improve the management of children’s pain at UChicago Medicine by building local clinical experts with the necessary clinical and leadership skills to promote evidence-based institutional pain management practices.
 
This session will provide clinicians will tools to help them assess pain in pediatric patients that have difficulty communicating that pain in order to provide them with improved care.
 

Target Audience

This activity is designed for physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals interested in pediatric pain assessment.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, the learner will be able to:

  • Identify challenges in managing pain for children with difficulty communicating so care can be individualized;
    Evaluate the clinical application of methods for assessing pain in children with difficulty communicating;
    Assess the impact of personal and organizational values, beliefs, and culture on managing pain in individuals unable to clearly communicate their pain.
