1. Understand the presentations and natural history of degenerative lumbar stenosis

2. Understand the variables that affect surgical decision making: decompression, instability scoliosis, fusion and non-fusion fixation

3. Understand the options for decompression, fixation, and fusion that best serve the individual patient
