Highly Infectious Disease Simulation Based Exercises

Chicago, IL US
May 22, 2017 to May 22, 2018
The introduction of infectious diseases to medical cases can make even routine procedures challenging. Through observation, university leadership identified a need for additional training of healthcare professionals to have more experience in infectious disease scenarios to improve their confidence in these challenging situations.

Simulation exercises allow infection control practitioners, nurses, and physicians to practice skills needed to safely provide patient care to a highly infectious patient in personal protective equipment.  Participants will be involved in two simulation based exercises. The simulation exercises will include:

  1. Equipment failure while caring for a patient with a highly infectious disease;
  2. Body fluid exposure while caring for a patient with a highly infectious disease.

Target Audience

This activity has been designed for physicians and other healthcare professionals interested in providing patient care to highly infectious patients.
