Mission Statement
The Mission of The Center for Continuing Medical Education at The University of Chicago is to aid the Division of Biological Sciences to meet its goals of preserving, advancing and communicating knowledge through education, and nurturing and sustaining a community of scholars. Responding to the needs of the medical community and the patients whom we serve are parallel and inseparable goals.
The Center seeks to accomplish these goals by providing educational opportunities that emphasize the University's role as a leader in scientific research and as an institution dedicated to the continuing education of physicians. The objective is to disseminate the latest and most valuable information on biomedical sciences and medical practice to physicians, scientists and other health care providers. It is anticipated these activities will lead to improved patient care and increase physician and community awareness of the faculty and services available at The University of Chicago Medical Center. We hope to develop more effective measures to determine the impact of these activities on patient care and thereby demonstrate the value of these programs to physicians and other health care institutions.
These educational opportunities include the development of traditional CME conferences in specific areas of expertise shared with national, regional or local audiences, jointly sponsored programs with area community hospitals, local medical societies and other health care institutions and groups, as well as improved in-house conferences for our own faculty and housestaff. The University should also be a leader in the development of enduring materials to facilitate long-distance learning, including videotapes, monographs, computer assisted learning technologies and Internet activities.
